Webmail

There exsits a webmail interface for accessing your email and configuring your email forwards and filters.

  • Open a web broswer (e.g. Firefox, Safari, Konqueror, ...). Visit our new webmail interface running Roundcube: https://webmail.lst.uni-saarland.de

  • Log in using your username (not email-address) and password. You need to have browser cookies activated for Roundcube to work properly.

You can comfortably check your email while away from our department, e.g. at home or on a conference. If you do, please make sure that the computer you use for accessing webmail is trustworthy.

Configuring mail forwards/filters

The mail server uses the SIEVE mail filtering language which is very powerful and sports a plethora of mail filtering capabilities. In principle, a filter consists of a name, a rule, an action and a possible additional action. Editing mail filters is easy using the LST webmail server.

  • Log in to webmail as described above.
  • In top level menu (left bar) choose Settings and then Filters.

Forwarding email to an external acount

  • Select Create to add a new filter

  • Choose a filter name

  • Select Scope "all messages".

  • In Actions select "Redirect message to" followed by the email address.

  • Please be aware that email forwarding may trigger spam filters because the LST relay will not be the original sender of an email. It is always best to access your email directly.

Spam filter

All incoming emails will be checked for viruses and spam by University's mail servers. To filter out spam

  • Select Create to add a new filter

  • Choose a filter name

  • Scope "matching ...".

  • In Rules click on "...", choose "X-Spam-Flag" as header name and contains "YES".

  • In Actions select "Move message to" and choose your spam folder (usually named Junk).

Vacation emails

  • Select Create to add a new filter

  • Choose a filter name

  • Select Scope "all messages".

  • In Action select "Reply with message", choose a "Message body" and "Message subject", click on "Fill with all my addresses" and how often this message will be sent.

  • Make sure this filter is in first position. You can drag&drop for positioning.

  • NOTE: For historical reasons, you may still receive emails for the domains coli.uni-saarland.de and uni-sb.de. In order for your vacation filter to recognize these mails, you must add them under "My e-mail addresses:". To do this, place the cursor behind your e-mail entry and press Enter. You can now add more e-mail addresses.
