Since 2009 EACL workshops proposals have been solicited and handled in conjunction with the other major conferences in the same year (e.g. ACL and EMNLP in 2014) as part of a joint call and joint selection process.
This has created some tension for EACL, since it is typically the first conference of the year and so would requires earlier deadlines than the other conferences if dealt with separately. Hence it is crucial for the EACL workshop chairs to engage with the other conferences as soon as possible, in order to agree on a schedule which is not detrimental (i.e. too tight) to the EACL workshops
